**NOTE** Only the two original tracks are included here. The full set of mashups, covers and originals is included on the CD and the YouTube playlist above.
The project is called "Senioritis" because it is a set of recollections of, or songs inspired by, my senior year of high school, 1991-92.
The first four tracks are mashups, or style mashups, with a heavy emphasis on the grunge music that appeared on the scene that year.
"Six For" is an original track with six layered bass parts, in 6/4 time. It is inspired by my attempt as a senior in high school at creating my own cover of Yes's "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)," overdubbing multiple bass parts at a time when I didn't even own a 4-track recorder. (I would record a track on one cassette, then "bounce" that along with the next track I was laying down onto a second cassette, and repeat the process. It did not sound good.)
The second half of the album represents the jazz I was learning about and aspiring to perform, and is a tribute to musical heroes lost, including Chick Corea, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Brecker and Lyle Mays.
The title track, "Senioritis," is my attempt at an original Brecker Brothers style funk horn track, albeit one that's much, much easier to play.
